1. What’s the deal with Battery Park?
Battery Park is a collaborative project between two separate businesses, North Brewing Company & The Brooklyn Warehouse. North Brewing occupies the street level space of the building where they have set up a Pilot Brewery system to craft small batch speciality beers and one-offs. They also have a variety of their best selling brews for sale at their retail cold beer shop right on site.
The Beerbar & Eatery is located on the upper level. With 15 taps, we offer a large and ever-changing selection of the finest craft & micro brews being produced, right now, across the Maritimes. We also have an awesome short list of bottled international beers on hand, along with a variety of spirits and wine, topped off with our own in-house soda pop and a few other surprises on the boards.
Speaking of boards, our eatery is fast becoming the talk of the town as our Pintxos & Pints Menu brings a very cool way to share good eats along with those awesome cold pints.
Kitchen opens with full menu service at 2 p.m. every afternoon except Tuesdays. Tuesday is our day off.
2. Do we need reservations for the eatery?
No. Battery Park does not take reservations. It is first come, first serve. We are set up more as a communal beerbar than a dining room, with counter-high seating throughout the space. Our backyard patio area, once open in the Spring, will offer more of a dining room setting with conventional table service.
3. Does the eatery offer a dinner menu?
Yes, but it's not in the traditional restaurant style. Our Pintxos & Pints menu is designed to be shared by couples and amongst friends by offering many small plates throughout the meal - pintxos, mezes, and tapas style; a dining experience more familiar in Spain, Portugal, Greece, and many other countries around the world. We also do chef inspired tasting boards of charcuterie, plateau de fruits de’ mer, formaggio, and antipasti.
4. How about lunch?
No. Battery Park doesn’t do lunch. We follow a more contemporary, streamlined style of service being offered by newer eateries & bars throughout North America, where the emphasis is on a single menu and a single service either only during the day (like the Canteen next door to us) or later in the day and into the night, as we do. This not only makes more economic sense for us as a business, but it allows other eateries around us to continue offering seriously good food at lunch, while Battery Park is there to augment what our neighbors offer instead of competing with it.
5. We have a group, when is the best time to arrive?
Battery Park has a limited allowable capacity at any given time, by regulation. On busier nights, we can reach capacity by 5pm and then we can only let new patrons into the space as others leave.
Once in the space, you are welcome to take a spot at the bar or where ever seating is available in our communal space. There is also standing room in the space. We do caution that the larger the group, the less likely it is you will find seats all together. It's a beerbar, after all.
6. Does Battery Park do growler fills of beers featured on tap?
No. Battery Park is a beerbar & eatery, not a brewery; our license does not allow for the sale of take-home alcoholic beverages. However, we share the building with North Brewing Company, which has their own retail craft beer shop right inside the main entrance. North does do growler fills and sells a pre-bottled selection of their own beer selection. We do not fill growlers at the bar. That’s a No-No!
7. What connection do you have to The Brooklyn Warehouse and Ace Burger Company?
They are sister eateries to Battery Park, which is the newest offering in the clan. We opened Brooklyn in 2007 as a cafe which quickly turned into one of Halifax’s busiest and most awarded bistro style dining rooms. Ace Burger came next in 2012, as a pop-up inside Gus’ Pub in North End Halifax. The pop-up was so successful, we decided to permanently take over Gus’ kitchen; offering the Best Burger in Halifax, three years running. You can learn more about both, here.
8. Do you have a private functions room or cater large group events?
We do not have a separate area for private functions. We have been able to accommodate larger group events in the space; but we don’t close to the public, and can’t make any promises. If you have something in mind, we would be happy to discuss your plans and how we might be able to accommodate them at Battery Park; just drop an email with the details and we’ll get back to you.
